About the Instructor

Dr. Gerry Ross practiced general dentistry for 50 years in Tottenham and has been using lasers since 1992 and teaching lasers since 1995. He has given over 200 lectures both nationally and on 6 continents. He has published 15 articles on lasers, written chapters for 2 textbooks, does peer review for 4 Journals, and is a member of the editorial board of the Journal Photobiomodulation, Photomedicine, and Laser Surgery. He is a member of the speaker’s bureau of the Academy of Laser Dentistry and in 2016 he was the recipient of the Leon Goldman Award for Clinical Excellence in Laser Dentistry.

About the Course

The course will be a combination of lecture and hands on. We will cover the history of lasers, laser mechanism, physics as well as laser safety. We will discuss soft tissue lasers, hard tissue lasers as well as low level lasers. We will concentrate on Diode lasers and will discuss in detail the various clinical applications:

- – Periodontal non-surgical treatment
- – Frenectomies
- – Troughing for impressions
- – Gingivectomies and Ginigivoplasties
- – Hygiene applications

There will be several different lasers available for you to try in the hands-on section and representatives of the various companies will be there to show their devices. If you already own a laser and want to learn how to use it more effectively, feel free to bring it with you and you can use it for the hands on. Low Level Lasers (Photobiomodulation) is the device that is a hidden secret and can be a huge practice booster.

You will learn:

– How to reduce pain after surgery and extractions (and eliminate the need for opioids)
– Treat soft tissue lesions like cold sores and apthous ulcers
– Regenerate damaged nerves
– Engage in doing painless restorative dentistry without the need for needles
– Treat TMD and facial pain without using pharmaceuticals
– Manage mucositis in cancer patients undergoing chemo and radiation therapy
– Learn how to use this as a home treatment for you and your family
– Learn surgical laser procedures; first by lecture and then try them in hands on.
– Attain knowledge in periodontal procedures including pocket reduction, gingivectomies and hygiene laser bacterial reduction.
– Learn frenectomies, gingival retraction for impressions and ROI for laser procedures
– Compare different laser devices before purchasing a unit.

About the Certification

This course comes with 6 Continuing Education Credits for Dentists and 6 hours for Dental Hygienists, approved by Smiles First Academy.
